Members of the Jedi Order have both a rank and a type. How to attain each is described here, as well as certain duties or responsibilities of those listed.
Jedi Ranks
Ranks are official titles in the clan, such as "Master Yoda" or "Knight Skywalker." They are taken
directly from the prequel trilogy, and their jobs are made as accurate as possible. Each Jedi or Jedi-in-training has a rank.
There are also certain lightsaber combat requirements for each rank; Jedi-in-training are expected only to use the saber type
in which they are currently training.
A note on clan tags: the clan tags require spaces in them, which can be created in Jedi Academy
by going into the console and, instead of using the \name command, one must issue the command \set name. Issue the command
"\name My Name," and your name will become "My"; but if you issue the command "\set name My Name,"
your name will become "My Name." Names may be of any colors, but should depict a positive, Light Side–oriented
attitude.
Youngling
In the prequel trilogy, younger Jedi who are still in training before becoming a Padawan are called "younglings." It is an unofficial title given to them and used by older Jedi to refer to them. In this Jedi Order clan, younglings are considered unranked members of the Jedi Order, or hopefuls that aren't necessarily in the clan yet, but are close enough to be considered new recuits that we include in our practices and training. Younglings are expected to be able to recognize and completely understand/comprehend the Jedi Code, to follow all of the rules associated with both the clan and the Jedi Code, to try their best at following all recommendations and such, and to attend most practices, tournaments, and teaching sessions; they are taught by Jedi Masters the ways of the single lightsaber yellow stance, for which near-mastery is required for advancement to the next rank. If a youngling remains at his or her stage for a prolonged amount of time, the Masters may consider sending Younglings to the Reassignment Council for redirection to another clan or another task. Otherwise, the youngling should be sent to the High Council for a trial when the youngling is ready. The trial will be simple; it will consist of questioning to ensure comprehension of the Jedi Code, and an evaluation of the youngling's progress in the yellow stance of the single saber; the High Council may conduct another test if they deem it necessary. If the youngling passes the trial, a Councillor will post an announcement stating that the youngling is ready to be taken by a Master; in this announcement, the requested Jedi type should be included as well as that which is recommended by the High Council. A suitable master of the same aims and type must take the youngling as his or her Padawan within thirteen weeks (mirrors the thirteen years rule of Younglings in the Star Wars Universe); the master may be ranked Jedi Knight or Jedi Master. Padawan
A Jedi Padawan, whose Jedi type and other goals in the Jedi Order have already been established prior to becoming a Padawan, is the apprentice to a Jedi Knight or a Jedi Master. Jedi Padawans are official members of the Jedi Order clan, and are expected to attend as many meetings as possible. Padawans (and all higher rankings, for that matter) are expected to follow all rules, regulations, and do as they are expected without falter. A Padawan must learn techniques from his or her master relating to their specialties; although Padawans should learn all of the ways of the Jedi, concentration on particular areas is assumed by certain Jedi types: Jedi Consular Padawans are to concentrate on learning and contemplating the Force; Jedi Guardian Padawans are to concentrate on learning lightsaber combat techniques; Jedi Sentinel Padawans are expected to strike a balance between the two and to learn diplomacy skills for foreign relations. All Padawans must master the red and yellow single saber stances, and are expected to be as proficient as possible with the blue stance (Jedi Academy does not give the blue stance proper strength as much as it has in the movies). Padawans are mainly taught these skills by their masters; the only interference should be a request of help from other members and clan practices. When the master of the Padawan believes that the Padawan is ready to ascend to the status of Knight, he or she should submit the request to the Jedi High Council. They will give the following described trial to test the Padawan for Knighthood. Padawan tags: Padawan Name {J}.
Knighthood Trials
The master of the Padawan may not be allowed to sit in the trial if that master is not on the Jedi Council. The server will be locked; only the Padawan and High Councillors may enter. All twelve Council members must be present. Consulars carry out tests related to the Force, Guardians carry out tests related to combat skills, and Sentinels carry out everything else; the other Councillors simply observe (input expected from all Councillors).
- The Padawan must be accepted for his or her trial.
- Questioning: can be anything, but enough to show the Council the Padawan's personality and what he or she thinks about the clan.
- Diplomacy situational analysis: present the Padawan with various situations involving other people and/or other (fictional) clans; allow the Padawan to react and say what the best course of action would be.
- Force analysis: Does the Padawan understand the Force? Does the Padawan understand the Jedi Code?
- Neutral Force powers test: can the Padawan defend only using neutral Force powers (one at a time) against other neutral and Dark Side attacks? Can he or she offend only using neutral powers (one at a time)? Can they do it all at once, fluently?
- Light Force powers test: How well can the Padawan defend against Dark Side and neutral attacks using only Light Side powers (still specific)? How effectively can he or she overpower a Dark Side / Neutral powered opponent using only the lightsaber for offense and Light Side powers for defense?
- Blue stance test: how effectively can the Padawan fend off and/or kill Council members (all at once) using only that stance and no Force?
- Yellow stance test: how effectively can the Padawan fend off and/or kill Council members (all at once) using only that stance and no Force?
- Red stance test: how effectively can the Padawan fend off and/or kill Council members (all at once) using only that stance and no Force?
- How effectively can the Padawan use all three of the stances to kill individual Councillors in duels (only Jedi Guardian Councillors)?
- How well can the Padawan accurately replicate or recognize the seven forms of lightsaber combat? How well do they do in their specialties (specialties are self-determined by the Padawan)?
- The Council must discuss the trial in the forum; the discussion must last until all Councillors have submitted their official comments, and a unanimous vote must be taken to determine the Padawan's destiny.
If all is passed, then the Padawan will be ranked a Knight, and the announcement will be made by the High Council.
Jedi Knight
A Jedi Knight is a Jedi Order member who has passed the Knighthood trials and is now part of the Jedi Service Corps. They may take a Padawan as his or her apprentice, but are not necessarily required or expected to. At this stage, members are eligible for a seat in any of the Jedi Councils. To become a Master, a Knight must fully master at least one additional saber type; this will be evaluated in the Mastery trial. The other elements of the Jedi Master trial are currently held propietary by the High Council; if a Knight feels that he or she is ready to take the trials, he or she should request it. Before the trials can be taken, the Knight must have trained and promoted at least one Padawan to the rank of Knight. Knight tags: Knight Name {J}.
Jedi Master
Upon becoming a Jedi Master, a Jedi Order member is one of the rolemodel figures in the clan; they are expected to do exactly as a Jedi should do, to give advice whenever needed, and to be completely knowledgeable on the clan's structure. Masters teach younglings and may take new Padawans. The Jedi Master is expected to seek further knowledge in the ways of the Force and more skill in lightsaber combat. Master tags: Master Name {J}.
Jedi Types
All Jedi ranked Padawan or higher have a specific type, which tells of their focus in being a Jedi and their responsibilities. The responsibilities are explained on the Rules and Regulations page, but the following explains what each type is. It should be noted that these focus areas for the Jedi are relative; a Jedi may focus a great deal on all of the elements of being a Jedi, but concentrate on one particular area. Jedi Master Yoda is considered the greatest lightsaber duelist in the prequel era, but he is a Jedi Consular as shown by his even greater knowledge of the Force. Each respective Jedi type has an associated lightsaber color, but it should be noted that the Jedi Order clan will never force you into using this color, nor is it expected or required.
Jedi Guardian
Jedi Guardians concentrate their training on lightsaber combat and martial training. They act essentially as fighters, who resolve conflicts with a duel or a tournament. Notable Jedi Guardians in the Star Wars Universe include Obi-Wan Kenobi, Mace Windu, Anakin Skywalker, and Luke Skywalker. Jedi Guardians often use the traditional blue lightsaber color.
Jedi Consulars
Jedi Consulars concentrate their training and seeking of knowledge on the Force and what is called "Form Zero," coined by Jedi Master Yoda, which describes the idea of using other means to resolve a conflict aside from a lightsaber battle. Consulars are expected to have a greater knowledge of the Force than any other area. A famous, notable Jedi Consular in the Star Wars Universe is Jedi Master Yoda himself. Consulars are often the tacticians, thinkers, planners, and advisors of the clan. Jedi Consulars are expected to be particularly knowledgeable about the Jedi Order clan. Jedi Consulars often use the green lightsaber.
Jedi Sentinels
Jedi Sentinels concentrate their training on striking a balance between knowledgeability of the Force and of lightsaber combat, hence being somewhat in-between the Jedi Consulars' and the Jedi Guardians' focus. In the Star Wars Universe, Jedi Sentinels, such as Bastila Shan and Visas Marr, often carry the yellow lightsaber. Jedi Sentinels also focus on diplomacy, and because of this, the Jedi Order clan sends Jedi Sentinels to other servers to represent the clan; they handle foreign affairs.
